Taking our NFL partnership to new heights with the Walter Payton Man of the Year Award

United Way Worldwide President and CEO Brian Gallagher attends an April 2016 Character Playbook event. Character Playbook will receive a donation in the home market of each Walter Payton Man of the Year team nominee.

At United Way, we’re always looking for ways to grow our partnerships and increase our commitment to building stronger communities.  By becoming a supporter of the NFL’s Walter Payton Man of the Year Award, we’re doing both.

Walter Payton was a Hall of Fame running back for the Chicago Bears, but he was also someone who went out of his way for the people in his community.  Simply put, he was a great man on the field and off of it.

Today, we joined with the NFL and Nationwide to announce this year’s team nominees for the Walter Payton Man of the Year Award, the winner of which will be announced in February.  These nominees positively impacted their communities through their dedicated service and philanthropic efforts.

As part of our support, United Way will be investing in the charities of choice of all 32 team award winners and in Character Playbook in each team winner’s club market.  It’s a great honor to support these winners, expand our partnership with the NFL and honor Walter Payton’s legacy.
